Janice Lancaster received her 250 hour Hatha Yoga certification through Stephanie Keach at the Asheville Yoga Center in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC. She is also certified in Relax and Renew®Restorative Yoga through Judith Hanson Lasater.

The practice she shares with students is rooted in expansive breath support and alignment principles. All movement perception and expression is related to the broad scope of one’s “dance of life.” Such inspirations are from Janice’s career as a dancer and choreographer. She holds a BFA in Dance from the University of NC School of the Arts (2001) and MFA in Dance from Hollins University/American Dance Festival (2010).

Often Janice brings yoga to the novice by infusing personal training programs with the focused wisdoms of yoga asana and breath awareness. Her personal training qualifications include 150 hours of Exercise Physiology, Anatomy and Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Fitness Assessments, Exercise Techniques, and Progression Program Design through the Equinox Fitness Training Institute, directed by Paul M. Juris, Ed.D., in New York City. Janice is also very influenced by studies of Experiential Anatomy with Andrea Olsen, and by movement workshops with neuroanatomy expert Irene Dowd.

In addition to one-on-one sessions with Love Your Rest clients, Janice has worked at Everyday Athlete and Equinox Fitness Clubs in Brooklyn and New York City. She has also taught in dance programs at the Universidad de las Américas in Puebla, México, the Roger Williams University in RI, the University of NC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, and the State University of NY in Fredonia.

With patience, persistence and subtle work, Janice changed my posture profoundly. Even years later, I can still feel and see the benefits of the work we did together.

I love Janice! Janice rescued me when I was in the midst of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery and looking for a way to feel more comfortable in my body. (Oh, and I had never been to a gym or yoga class before). Her gentle-but-firm touch and her patience with a total beginner made me feel profoundly comfortable, and I was surprised each week at the progress I made from our training sessions. She is deeply intelligent and intuitive, so you never have any fear of being pushed toward injury. And poetic! She is the master of metaphor and sound effects, explaining movements, stretches and muscles in ways that are personal and often hilarious. Definitely makes exercise and movement into something that involves your mind and emotions as much as your body.

Janice is lovely and kind, yet totally serious and dedicated to her own art, and to the well being of those she works with. I enjoyed our sessions together on many levels. She's truly special.
- Cathy Cavender, NYC

Janice has had an extraordinary affect on my physical well-being and the work we have done together will benefit me the rest of my life. I am, of course, changed in posture and mobility, and I am much more aware of efficient body movement. These changes have certainly improved my physical condition (and my ability to participate in many activities), and with that improvement have come psychic benefits that are harder to describe but very real -- at the very least, a greater sense of calmness, particularly in connection with physical activity, and increased ability to control tension and stress. Janice is gifted with a very unique combination of empathy, compassion, concern, intelligence, and competency that makes her one of the very best teachers that I have known.
- Joe W., NYC

I love Janice's passion for yoga and fitness. Her amazing enthusiasm for teaching, combined with how she folds yoga and fitness into her busy life, were a great inspiration to me.
- RB, NYC
